Born and raised in the great state of Iowa (not on a corn farm…), I grew up loving books. I am not sure when I realized that I was a bookworm. Maybe it was when I refused to share my hard bound Disney books. Perhaps it was when it was easier to make a list for Christmas of the Goosebumps novels I didn’t own. It might have even been when I discovered Belle’s magical library and vowed to one day own an exact replica. Either way, reading has always been a major part of my life.
Despite my love for writing, I decided to take a practical approach in college and opted to study Accounting at the University of Iowa. After a few years, the cost of tuition proved too much, so I transferred to Western Illinois University. After having to retake many business classes due to credit transfers, it was about another year before I realized that I hated accounting. A change in majors to English Literature was in order. Unlike in my business classes, my fantasy novels and nerdy attitude fit in with my fellow Lit students (I even got to take a course studying The Fellowship of the Ring). Sadly, medical and personal issues forced me to move halfway across the country only one semester before my graduation. Living in North Carolina, I was able to finish my degree at WIU online, although only with what is called a “Board of Trustees” degree.
While most of my studies revolved around Literature, I can admit that I am somewhat of a phony. I pretend to have read most of the classics I should have read when in reality they sit on my bookshelves unopened. My passion lies in fantasy novels, and while I often take breaks to expand my reading horizons, you can usually find me curled up with a good novel by Brandon Sanderson or Steven Erikson.
I moved to Northern Virginia, outside Washington D.C., to be with my now husband in 2010. We married in 2011, welcomed our first son in March 2013 and our second in March 2017. It was at this point we relocated to the Triangle area (Raleigh/Durham) in North Carolina for a more affordable and relaxed lifestyle. Our dog, Gimli, came along for the ride, of course. I currently stay at home with my boys, trying to make time to write, read, and hopefully go back to school.
